Powell nets 25 as Rustin clinches Ches-Mont American Division title
WESTTOWN — Over the past four seasons, Noelle Powell has had plenty of clutch performances in big games for West Chester Rustin.
With the Ches-Mont League American Division title on the line, the stage was set for Powell to play to her potential.
“I couldn’t have played well without my teammates getting me great passes,’ Powell said. “We knew it was going to be a fight from beginning to end, so it was important to start out strong. We pulled it together tonight.’
Powell set the tone for West Chester Rustin thoughout the night as she scored the first 15 points for the Golden Knights, all in the first quarter, to finish with a game-high 25 as Rustin pulled away late to a 62-47 win over Unionville in a battle of the top-two teams in the Ches-Mont American Division Thursday.
The win clinched the Ches-Mont American Division title for the Golden Knights, which is their fourth in a row. They will host the Ches-Mont National Division second-place team (either Downingtown East or Coatesville) in the Ches-Mont Final Four next Saturday.
The Indians have lost their second straight game after winning a season-high seven in a row. They can clinch a Ches-Mont Final Four spot with wins in their final two American Division games (Great Valley, Oxford) next week.
Rustin and Unionville battled for three quarters, with the Golden Knights clinging to a 42-37 lead. Their experience of playing in big games helped them pull away from the Indians in the fourth.
