Green scores 24, Phil-Mont Christian rolls past Chrstian Dock

SPRINGFIELD >> Phil-Mont Christian can do a little bit of everything, which continues to be too much for opponents to handle, especially when the Falcons are rolling at home.

“I feel like when we’re at home, the intensity is just up there,” said Phil-Mont 6-foot-3 senior Tracey Goodman, one of two inside forces the Falcons can turn to. “It’s like we’re at home, this is our place, let’s get this and give the fans a show while we’re out there.”

Goodman, a Lansdale product, scored 11 points, her counterpart in the front court, Keyen Green, poured in 24, and the Falcons would go on to earn a 68-42 victory over Christopher Dock in a Bicentennial Athletic League contest at Phil-Mont Thursday night.

The Falcons (10-2) jumped out to a 16-3 lead early, capped off by Kayla Griffin (19 points) dishing it off to Goodman to finish off a fast break.

“After our game on Tuesday (a 59-36 win over Lower Moreland), I feel like our confidence went from here to way up here,” Goodman said with her hand raised high. “Even at practice yesterday, our plays were working, we were moving the ball great, talking. I feel like we just changed overnight.”

The Falcons kept that momentum going with 13 first-half points from Green, who powered Phil-Mont to a 38-19 lead at the break.

The Falcons were pounding the ball inside to Green and Goodman, scoring in transition, and even got four 3-pointers from Griffin, who sank one of those early in the third to provide surging Phil-Mont a commanding 30-13 advantage.

“They have two monsters in there and it’s hard to stop them,” Dock coach Al Grenfell said of Goodman, who will play at Rider University next year, and Green, who will play at Liberty University. “But the girls gave a great effort and didn’t back down.

“We shot the ball, we moved it, but we made some young turnovers. This is when they have to learn.”

The Pioneers, playing without leader Lanae Hunsberger, put together some nice stretches and several times were able to initiate contact and get to the foul line.

Dock (6-5) got 13 points from Olyvia Longacre and 11 from Nicole Ford and were able to close to within 22-12 early in the third quarter before another run by the Falcons put the game out of reach.

The Pioneers will host Plumstead Christian Wednesday and Phil-Mont is back on the court Tuesday, at Delaware County Christian.
