Penn Wood no match for Baughman, Cumberland Valley
There’s a reason why Cumberland Valley’s Morgan Baughman is headed to Niagara and teammate Kelly Jekot has given a verbal commitment to Villanova.
They can play.
Penn Wood found that out the hard way.
Baughman and Jekot combined for 45 points Friday night, 33 in the first half, as the Eagles rolled over the Patriots, 76-38, in the first round of the PIAA Class AAAA girls basketball tournament.
The District Three champion Eagles (25-3) advance to take on the winner of the game between Cedar Crest and Central Bucks South.
Cumberland Valley had 10 3-pointers. Baughman and Jekot had nine of those triples. Baughman, a 5-10 senior forward, drilled seven 3-pointers and scored 23 of her game-high 29 points in the first half. Jekot, a 5-9 junior guard added 10 of her 16 points as the Eagles raced to a 42-13 lead at the break.
Dahnye Redd paced Penn Wood (19-9) with 16 points. Joy Morton pitched in with 10 points.
