Norristown shoots its way past Phoenxiville from 3-point range

WEST NORRITON >> Norristown’s 42-33 win over Phoenixville Tuesday night might just have been decided in the game’s first three minutes.

In that time, Beyonce Collins, Brooke Heim and Kayla Mastrocola all hit 3-pointers, instantly taking the Phantoms out of their zone defense.

Forced to play man-to-man, the Phantoms couldn’t contain the Eagles, who committed just 10 turnovers for the entire game.

“We’ve been waiting all year to hit more threes,” said Eagles head coach Rich Fisher. “We’re young and still learning, but the team played really well tonight.”

“Norristown came out and hit those threes, and we had to go back and play man-to-man, and that’s not our game,” said Phantoms head coach AJ Thompson. “We just had too many turnovers and Norristown played with passion and aggression tonight.”

The Eagles got 12 points off the bench from Tovyannah Wright and Mastrocola added eight.

Norristown led 11-5 after one quarter and held a slim 19-17 lead at halftime. But the Eagles exploded in the second half, outscoring Phoenixville, 11-7, in the third quarter and 13-9 in the fourth.

Jasmine Hamilton had eight points to pace Phoenixville, but she got little help as the Eagles defense swarmed the Phantoms.

“It’s a matter of finding some consistency,” Thompson said. “We’ve been on a win-loss, win-loss run, and we can’t build any momentum.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles bounced back from a game last week where they totaled 38 turnovers.

“We were real focused tonight, and we hung on,” Fisher said. “But we’re still young and we have a lot of work to do.”

Dakota Graham, Amanda Fields and Peyton Graham all added six points in defeat, but it was the Eagles night.
