Mercury Roundup (Feb. 8): Owen J. Roberts boys close year with 62-50 win over Pottstown

Owen J. Roberts 62, Pottstown 50 (box score): The Wildcats won back-to-back games to close its campaign and finish 7-12. Seven wins is OJR’s highest win total since 2018-19. Jake Bolyn hit five 3s as part of his 24-point night and Luke Fryer added 19.
Gage Sibley and Sadeeq Jackson scored 23 and 20 points, respectively, for the Trojans. Pottstown also closes its season, going 6-16.

Hill School 73, Pennington 58: Trey O’Neil scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the opening half and Hill earned a non-league win in its regular season home finale. Augie Gerhart matched him with 17 points. Senior Graham Eilberg scored nine on a day Hill’s Class of 2022 was honored.

Girls Basketball

Phoenixville 48, Pottsgrove 28 (box score): Nine Phantoms scored and Nevaeh Latimore-Beasley had a team-high 11 as Phoenixville cruised by Pottsgrove for a PAC Frontier win Tuesday.

Phoenixville raced out to a 28-6 halftime lead. The Phantoms improved to 7-12 and close the season with non-league games with Great Valley and Downingtown West.

Aaliyah Freeman scored 19 of the undermanned Falcons’ 28 points.

Owen J. Roberts 45, Villa Maria 42 (box score): Gabbi Koury scored seven of her 12 points in the final quarter and Avery White scored a game-high 20 as the Wildcats pulled off another clutch late season win to solidify their place in the District 1-6A playoffs.

OJR jumped to No. 21 in the 6A rankings with the win after entering the fourth quarter tied 29-29. Alexa Vogelman added nine for OJR.

Methacton 60, Unionville 45 (box score): Methacton closed its regular season 20-2 with a road win over Unionville, getting 23 points from senior guard Nicole Timko. Cassidy Kropp added 11.

The Warriors’ next game will be Saturday in a PAC semifinal against the winner of Thursday’s Spring-Ford/Upper Perkiomen playoff game.

High Point Baptist 49, Alliance Christian 29: Caitlin Arden scored 13 points for Alliance in a CCAC loss Tuesday.
