Mayock’s cool hand gives Notre Dame the win
Katie Mayock’s clutch shooting from the free-throw line with 1.2 seconds to play lifted Notre Dame to a 31-29 Inter-Ac League victory over Episcopal Academy Friday.
Kristen Rogers’ 3-pointer tied the game with 20 seconds to play. On the ensuing EA possession, Mayock grabbed a rebound and was fouled, sending her to the charity stripe with the game on the line.
Mandy McGurk scored a team-high 10 points for Notre Dame.
Elodie Furey led all players with 14 points for the Churchwomen.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Rustin 45, Sun Valley 34 >> Kate Lannon’s 21-point, 12-rebound effort wasn’t enough to carry the Vanguards (7-11). Maddie Michael had eight points in defeat.
In nonleague action:
Shipley 65, Penn Wood 60 >> Dahnye Redd poured in a game-high 21 points, but the Patriots (13-6) saw their 12-game winning streak fall by the wayside. Carle Andrews had 16 points and Joy Morton followed with 15 for Penn Wood.
Sacred Heart 40, Bristol 36 >> Madison Schneider scored the go-ahead basket in the final minute, lifting the Lions to their fifth win of the season. Agnes Friend hit a 3-pointer to tie the game with two minutes to play. Eileen Piombino had a game-high 17 points for Sacred Heart.
