Villa Maria 57, Phoenixville 31 >> No. 3 seed Villa Maria secured a spot in the state tournament while handling No. 11 seed Phoenixville in a District 1-5A second round game Tuesday.
Villa Maria will face No. 2 seed Bishop Shanahan in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 24.
Phoenixville, which knocked off No. 6 Radnor in the opening round, enters playbacks for the two remaining state berths in 5A (6 total). The Phantoms will travel to meet No. 7 Mount St. Joseph on Friday (7 p.m.) with a PIAA berth in the balance.
