Recap
Last season Germantown Academy’s girls basketball team ran through Inter-Ac League play without any issues and finished the year with a perfect league record. On Dec. 19, the Patriots started their quest to repeat that feat.
Germantown Academy came away with a 60-41 victory in its first league contest of the year, a matchup with Academy of Notre Dame de Namur. Behind a combined 33 points from Elle Stauffer ’20 and Jay Haynes ’20, the Patriots proved to be too much for their opponent.
GA exploded for 18 points in the first quarter, but bested that output with a 20-point second quarter. Meanwhile, the Irish struggled, scoring only 15 points by the half.
Things changed after the break as Notre Dame outscored GA 26-22, but the halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Maddie Vizza ’20 and Becca Booth ’20 both tallied nine points in the win. That output is a season-high for Booth, who also grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Patriots are now 8-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Inter-Ac. They will be playing in the Cardinal Invitational on Dec. 28 and 29.
