Brandywine Heights falls to Delone Catholic in district game
Although they hoped to go further, thhe season came to an end for the Brandywine Heights High School girls basketball team when they lost to Delone Catholic in the quarterfinal round of the District 3-AA Tournament on Feb. 20, 75-52.
There was some good news for the Bullets. Senior Deanna Daddona became the all-time team scoring leader after scoring a team-high 21 points in the game. She finished her career with 1,253 points, surpassing the previous record set in 2002 by Nicole Savino.
Other than that, not a whole lot went right for the Lady Bullets. They stayed with Delone Catholic in the first quarter, trailing by just three, 15-12. But Delone Catholic started to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Bullets, 23-16. They pretty much put the game away in the third quarter, leading 61-41 heading into the final period.
Besides Daddona’s 21 points, Lizzy Leiby contributed 17 points and seven rebounds for the Bullets. Nora Harrison added eight points and Erika Delong added three.
The Lady Bullets opened district play with a home game against Linden Hall on Feb. 17. Brandywine Heights outscored Linden Hall in all four quarter on its way to a 66-41 victory.
Brandywine jumped out to a 19-12 lead after one quarter, then expanded the lead to 15 by halftime, 34-19. They pretty much put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring their guests, 20-12.
Lizzy Leiby was the top scorer for Brandywine Heights with 20 points in the contest. Deanna Daddona was right behind her with 19 points, while Krika Delong scored seven and Missy Seabourne added six. Hannah Fenstermacher netted four points.Brandywine Heights finished the season with an overall record of 14-10 They were 8-2 in Berks League play which tied them for first place with Wyomissing. The Bullets lost in the first round of the Berks League playoffs, 76-40 to Berks Catholic.
