Wilson football opens season with loss to Roman Catholic
Wilson fell in its football season opener on Friday night.
The Bulldogs lost 49-14 to Roman Catholic in a non-league game at Upper Dublin.
Wilson fell behind 13-0 in the first quarter, as Roman Catholic quarterback Semaj Beals found Dazhaun Hopkins for a 6-yard score. Just over two minutes later, Lou Gaddy intercepted Bulldogs quarterback Tom Hunsicker and ran it back for a 68-yard touchdown.
Wilson got on the board in the second quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run from Hunsicker to make it 13-7. The Cahillites responded with a 46-yard touchdown run from Hopkins, which made it 20-7 after the extra point.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs cut Roman Catholic’s lead to 20-14 when Jonah Pertet blocked a Cahillites’ field goal attempt and returned it 80 yards for the touchdown. Ben Rada converted on the ensuing extra point.
That is all the closer the Bulldogs would get, however, as Roman Catholic scored 29 unanswered points. Beals threw four touchdown passes of 33 yards or more in the second half, including two to Tayden Mines.
Hunsicker led Wilson with 44 yards rushing on 16 attempts. He completed 14-of-30 passes for 165 yards with one interception.
