White comes up big late, Souderton tops CB West

DOYLESTOWN >> Souderton Area’s Jamar White scored the go-ahead touchdown with just 32 seconds left to play and then came up with the game-clinching interception in the final moments to help lead Big Red to a 21-14 victory over Central Bucks West in a non-conference clash at War Memorial Stadium Friday night.

The Bucks battled back from a 14-0 deficit to tie the game with 4:45 to go and then came up with a big stop on Souderton’s ensuing possession.

But when Souderton punted with just minutes to play, the ball hit one of the Bucks’ upmen and Souderton gained possession at the West 37.

With the running of Blake Gular and White, Big Red (1-1) pounded its way down to the West two, with White running in untouched to cap the 10-play drive and put Souderton back in front.

“The line made just a good enough seam for me to slip through — it was perfect,” White said. “I just had to have faith in them.”

And then came the interception.

Playing three men deep, White extended high into the air, hauling in a deep, desperation pass by Bucks quarterback Eddie Shields with just seconds to play.

“When you see a ball in the air like that, you just say ‘I know this is mine. I know this is mine,’” White said.

Souderton’s attack was rolling early.

On Big Red’s third offensive play of the evening, Koby Khan found a crack on the left side of the line and was gone, racing away to a 51-yard score that put Big Red in front early.

Souderton doubled its lead moments later, as White broke free for a 27-yard score that extended the margin to 14-0.

West (0-2) came back after halftime though, and on fourth down at the Buck 42, Jake Reichwein burst through the line and broke away for a 58-yard score that brought the Bucks within 14-7 in the third.

With a spirited West crowd at full voice, the Bucks evened things up with 4:45 to go, as Reichwein plowed in from a yard out, but the final moments — and the victory — would go to White and the Indians.
