West Chester Rustin pummels Octorara

WESTTOWN >> Ty Pringle smiled when he and his West Chester Rustin backfield partner Brandon Frazier were referred to as thunder and lightning.
“That’s a good name for us,” Pringle said. “I’m a fan.”
The Pringle-Frazier duo certainly has lived up to that status over the past four weeks. Friday night was no different.
Pringle and Frazier combined for nine carries, 217 yards and five touchdowns as West Chester Rustin scored 48 points in the first half of a 55-7 victory over Octorara in a Ches-Mont League American Division game.
The Golden Knights (4-1 league, 6-2 overall) amassed 407 rushing yards on the night. Frazier led Rustin with three carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns, while Pringle had six carries for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
As the duo have combined for 1,069 yards during Rustin’s four game winning streak, Frazier was quick to point out that the show doesn’t revolve around two players.
“Our line has been blocking real well,” Frazier said. “The holes have been opening up real easy, especially tonight. I was just able to make one move, one cut, and then there was a wide open field.”
“They’re getting better and better each week,” said Rustin head coach Mike St. Clair referring to the offensive line. “It took this new line to gel after a couple weeks, but they’re really rounding into form.”
As the offensive line is starting to click, so is Pringle. The sophomore has rushed for 701 yards over the last four weeks to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for the season. Pringle accomplished the feat on his second carry of the game, a 20-yard touchdown run to put Rustin up 14-0 with 8:51 left in the first quarter. He has 1,084 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season.
“It feels amazing to get 1,000 yards,” Pringle said. “Really the offensive line deserves the credit. They put in the hard work that allowed me to get it.”
Frazier only needed two carries to eclipse the 100-yard mark with touchdown runs of 50 and 53 yards in the first half. The 50-yard run came on the second play of the game to put Rustin ahead 7-0. His second carry of the night was the 53-yard counter to put the Golden Knights up 34-0 on the first play of the second quarter.
Pringle’s third and final touchdown of the night came on a 52-yard run to put Rustin up 41-0 and the mercy rule into effect with 7:34 left in the second quarter.
“Ty and I have been able to see our way through and get comfortable with what we’re trying to do in the backfield,” Frazier said. “We’ve been working harder in practice to establish the run game.”
Rustin ran for 341 yards in the first half and outgained the Braves (0-4, 0-8) 453 to 91 on the night. As the Golden Knights continue to find their form, the margin for error is slim thanks to a 2-2 start.
The first four games are in the past as Rustin has Sun Valley and Coatesville standing in its way of a District 1 Class AAAA playoff berth. Wins over both opponents to close out the season will seal the Golden Knights playoff fate.
“We have to stay focused these next two weeks,” Frazier said. “They’re big games for us. We know we have to win out.”
