Temple-bound Archibong heads Delco commits
Several Delco football players made their college decisions official Wednesday on National Signing Day.
Springfield lineman/tight end Dan Archibong signed with Temple, while Radnor lineman Colin Bradley committed to Lafayette. There are no other Division I-bound football players from Delaware County. Chester lineman D’Andre Dill verbaled to Temple in the summer, but failed to qualify and did not sign Wednesday.
Several of Delco’s top talents announced their intent to play at the other NCAA levels. Most notably, 2015 Daily Times Player of the Year Jack Donaghy will continue his career at Franklin & Marshall.
Donaghy guided Haverford to the Central League championship in 2015 with seven touchdowns to beat Upper Darby on Thanksgiving. Donaghy finished his career second in county history with 5,296 yards passing.
Marple Newtown All-Delco Abel Hoff, who twice set the county’s single-season reception record, announced earlier this month via Twitter that he will play at Shippensburg. Teammates Marcus Weathers and Matt Trainor are headed to Ursinus.
A pair of Upper Darby All-Delcos will suit up in college. Lineman Shawn Page is going to Bloomsburg and defensive back Calvin Fielding will play at East Strousburg. Other Royals going to college for football are receiver Brandon Morton and lineman Ahmad Rudd, both of whom will play at Lock Haven.
Haverford School All-Delco lineman Brian Denoncour will join Donaghy at Franklin & Marshall along with Garnet Valley quarterback Matt Hamby. Garnet Valley All-Delco lineman Tim Bradley committed to Shippensburg.
There will be a Ridley invasion at King’s College next fall, including linemen Denis Kennedy, Seamus Boyle and Dom Pinto. Their teammate and linemate Matt Cipolloni will play at Bloomsburg along with Page, Strath Haven’s Shane Mulhern and Chester’s Ed Nelson Jr. Chester is also sending Ta’Mir Friend off to Cheyney for football.
Penncrest’s Mateos Ghebre (line) and Zane Horne (receiver) will play at Lock Haven. Springfield lineman Matt Cella is joining the program at Kutztown.
