Spring-Ford smashes Cumberland Valley, 63-17
The Spring-Ford football team traveled to Cumberland Valley, the site of the PIAA Championships, and played like a team planning to return there in December.
Junior quarterback Matt Zollers was devastating with seven touhdowns – six passing, one rushing – and Spring-Ford smashed Cumberland Valley, 63-17 at Chapman Field in a weather-shortened game called with 9:06 remaining due to inclement weather.
Zollers completed 14 of 22 passes for 324 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed for a score to improve the Rams to 3-0.
Spring-Ford opened the scoring on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Zollers to Mason Scott (five receptions, 148 yards, three touchdowns) on fourth-and-4.
Zollers connected with Jordan Marsilio for a 26-yard score to close the first quarter up 14-0. The Eagles (0-3) around and trailed 21-10 after an Andrew Rice 35-yard field goal with 4:28 left in the second quarter.
From there, the only thing that could stop Spring-Ford was the weather.
Other Spring-Ford touchdowns came in the form of a 64-yard Zollers run, a 16-yard TD catch by Scott to earned a 35-10 halftime lead; in the second half, two Belal Abdelrahman TD catches (74, 18), Scott’s third score. MIke Bendowski’s 6-yard rushing burst – his second ground TD of the game – capped the Rams’ romp.

Spring-Ford travels to District 3 heavyweight Manheim Township next Friday looking for a non-league sweep.
