Rodriguez’s late run helps Bonner take down Roman
Donovan Rodriguez scored five of his eight points in overtime, all from the free throw line, to lift Bonner & Prendergast to a 68-66 victory over Roman Catholic in Catholic League boys basketball action Friday.
The Friars shot 10-for-12 from the line in the extra session. Isaiah Wong scored 18 of his game-high 23 points after halftime. Ajiri Johnson and Tariq Ingraham chipped in with 15 points apiece.
Archbishop Carroll 64, West Catholic 46 >> The Patriots were nearly perfect from the line, shooting 17-for-18. Justin Johnson led the way with 15 points and six rebounds. Keyon Butler had 14 points and seven rebounds. Luke House tallied 14 points and while A.J. Hoggard contributed 11 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and two steals.
In the Central League:
Penncrest 65, Garnet Valley 59 >> Reigning Player of the Year Tyler Norwood scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lions and move into second place on the school’s career scoring list. Matt Arbogast added 11 points and Chris Mills 10 for the Lions.
Austin Laughlin tossed in 19 points and Greg Vlassoupoulos 12 for the Jaguars.
Marple Newtown 38, Conestoga 36 >> Mike May hit two clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to pace the Tigers.
May finished with 12 points and seven assists. Tommy Gardler led Marple Newtown with 13 points.
Haverford 60, Strath Haven 46 >> The Fords jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and slowly pulled away.
Dan Roe led all scorers with 24 points. JT Smith added 12 for the Fords. Cooper Driscoll’s 18 points showed the way for Strath Haven.
Ridley 55, Radnor 43 >> Enoch Clark tallied 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half and Meese Toby netted 13 of his 17 after the break to help the Green Raiders break the game open.
Lewis Robinson led Radnor with 15 points.
Upper Darby 67, Springfield 37 >> Magd Abdelwahab paced four players in double figures with 13 points, and the Royals led from start to finish. Mamadou Toure added 12 points, Diby Keith 11 and Floyd Wedderburn 10.
Mike Webb topped the Cougars with 13 points.
In the Inter-Ac League
Haverford School 62, Malvern Prep 57 >> Christian Ray collected 26 points and 11 rebounds to help the Fords (13-4, 4-0) remain undefeated in league play.
Episcopal Academy 70, Germantown Academy 49 >> Matt Dade and Alex Capitano tallied 17 points in an easy with for the Churchmen.
In the Bicentennial League:
Faith Christian 79, Christian Academy 53 >> Grant Sareyka scored 12 points and Luke Sareyka added 10, but it wasn’t enough as the visiting Lions pulled away with 44 points in the second half.
Valley Forge 68, Delco Christian 49 >> A slow start doomed the Knights as the Cadets jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter. Tyler Penley led the way with 18 points and Jackson Piotrowski 15.
