Reporter/Times Herald Week 6 Football: Souderton looks to reach 6-0 vs. CB East

Souderton Area looks to get to 6-0 Friday night, going against a hungry Central Bucks East team intent on improving its playoff chances.

“That’s gonna be a good football team that we have to man up against,” Patriots coach John Donnelly said. “If we wanna do the things we wanna do, we have to start by getting a victory there, which will be tough sledding.”

Big Red and CB East will square off in a Suburban One League Continental Conference game on the turf at Souderton.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Anthony Giordano has been getting it done under center for the Patriots, with his arm and legs.

“He’s tough. He’s a tough kid. He played tight end last year and got some time at quarterback,” Donnelly said. “He is a leader, a gamer. He is hard on himself to a fault sometimes.

“But you see how tough he runs and he can separate from people. And he drops the ball right in there, all kinds of throws — different-level throws. And I think we do a good job of spreading it around.”

Big Red comes into the contest a perfect 5-0, with a 2-0 mark in the conference.

In the win over Pennridge, Nick Guthre ran 10 times for a game-high 101 yards and also caught three passes for 46 yards with the senior posting big yardage plays as both a rusher and receiver.

In the second quarter, Guthre hauled in a 39-yard pass to set up Jalen White’s two-yard TD run to give the Indians a 14-7 lead.

Souderton, with its tremendous collection of backs that includes Guthre and DeAndre Wakefield, is coming off a spirited 24-21 win over rival Pennridge. East led early and played well in spots but ultimately fell to North Penn 49-25 last week.

The Patriots, looking to stay in the thick of things in District 1-6A, are 3-2 overall, with an 0-1 mark in the Continental.
