Rayborn helps lead Episcopal to comeback win; Radnor defeats Harriton

Things didn’t look good for Episcopal Academy in its Inter-Ac League opener against Germantown Academy Friday night. The Churchmen trailed by a touchdown and starting quarterback John Fant was on the sideline with an injury.

And then the special teams and sophomore Na’Rome Rayborn came through in the clutch.

EA blocked a punt and Rayborn threw a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion with 49 seconds left to give the Churchmen a 29-28 victory over the Patriots.

Rayborn threw a 16-yard TD pass to Bryce Cooper to get the Churchmen within a point. Head coach Todd Fairlie went for the win and Rayborn rolled out to his right and found TJ Cadden a few yards inside the end zone along the sideline for the winning conversion that snapped a two-game losing streak for the Churchmen (4-2, 1-0).

Fant scored twice in the first half on runs of 14 and two yards before leaving the game with an injury. Andrew Meekin’s one-yard run in the third quarter tied the game at 21.

Brian Allen scored three times for the Patriots (3-2, 0-1), who led, 7-0, 14-7, 21-14 and 28-21 before the Churchmen staged their comeback.

In the Central League:

Radnor 32, Harriton 6 >> The Raptors scored the last 32 points to top the Rams.

Amir Byrd’s 100-yard interception return on a ball tipped by Ben Hart with 3:11 left in the game closed out the scoring for Radnor. Mason Brown’s pick enabled the Raptors (2-6, 2-5) to run out the clock.

Radnor took to the air to erase a 6-0 deficit. Quarterback Jude Wallin threw touchdown passes to C.J. Murphy (22 yards), Byrd (33) and Tommy DeShan (45) to open up an 18-6 lead. Damian Falcone  raced 31 yards for a TD in the third quarter to extend the advantage to 25-6.
