Pennridge, Abington clash in Week Four
Both Pennridge and Abington got things rolling last week, and both will be trying to stay in that groove when the Rams and Ghosts collide Friday night at Abington for a Week Four Suburban One League National Conference showdown.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Pennridge got its first win of the young season last week, shutting out Bensalem 35-0. The Rams come into this one at 1-2 overall and 0-0 in the SOL National.
Abington also won big last week, earning a 49-7 victory over Truman. The Ghosts come into this one at 2-1 overall and 0-0 in the SOL National.
The Rams battled hard on both sides of the ball last week to earn their first win under new head coach Chuck Burgy.
“We fought for this one man, we fought for every minute of tonight,” said Burgy after the victory. “Tonight, we got a good win when we needed it and we’re gonna go on a roll.”
The Ram defense was outstanding in Week Three, dominating the line of scrimmage. The Rams also forced two interceptions and multiple turnovers on downs and set up their offense with solid field position.
The Rams’ ground game took things from there, piling up almost 200 yards in the first half alone. The rushing attack was led by Brennan Fisher, who ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Tyler Wetzel had a 72-yard touchdown run for the Rams.
Quarterback Patrick Burdick was sharp, making several key conversions, most impressively a touchdown pass to put the Rams up by 35 with 12 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Rams will be taking on an Abington squad with a lot of weapons to turn to – both on the ground and through the air.
Joshua Brown, Anthony Pronsati and Jaime Rivera all can make big plays running the football.
Joshua Young has emerged as a catalyst on both sides of the ball for the Ghosts, as a receiver and a versatile defender.
