Lower Moreland’s offensive woes continue in loss to Valley Forge Military Academy

LOWER MORELAND >> For most of the season it’s been a struggle for Lower Moreland on the offensive side of the football, as they’ve averaged just 6 points per game. Saturday their woes continued, as they took on Valley Forge Military Academy and fell 20-0 behind another disappointing offensive performance.

“They stuck together and played hard and they’re great kids,” Lower Moreland head coach Mark Mayson said. “It’s been a tough year on offense but they’ve given us everything we could possibly want from those kids.”

Their struggles started with their running game, as they managed just 24 total rushing yards and looked outmatched up front.

Their leading rusher, senior fullback Charlie Butz, managed just 22 yards on 12 carries and found himself with very little to work with as Valley Forge’s front seven dominated the Lions’.

Defensively, Lower Moreland played well enough to win, allowing just one offensive touchdown. However, their special team’s unit gave up an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown and the Valley Forge defense also took an interception to pay dirt, finding different ways to score as their offense wasn’t doing the job.

“Our defense played really well,’ Mayson said. ‘Valley Forge has some exceptional athletes and they made plays on all sides of the ball with the punt return and the interception, they beat us up when we had the ball and just weren’t able to sustain anything.”

The Valley Forge offense moved the ball almost at will, especially on the ground, even if they didn’t have many points to show for it.

Running back Audley Isaacs finished with a game high 165 yards on just 16 carries as he used his size and speed to trouble the Lions all afternoon.

“Audley Isaacs played an outstanding game and he’s our key player,” Valley Forge head coach Mike Korom said. “He had a great game running the ball, I know he went over 100 yards, and he’s on his way to an 1000 yard season so he was huge today.”

In total, Valley Forge racked up 277 yards rushing and added 84 more through the air, dominating the time of possession and much of the action up front.

For Lower Moreland, Saturday’s effort marked their fifth straight loss on the year for what has been a frustrating season. However, coach Mayson insists that they won’t hang their head on the negatives and will continue to give every game their all.

“We’re going to continue to do the same thing were doing now,” Mayson added. “We’re going to work hard, stick together, and do everything we can to give the best effort we have.”
