Lower Moreland earns playoff spot

To say this season has been rough for Lower Moreland is probably an understatement.

The Lions finished its regular season with a 2-8 mark. They were outscored 371-79 and had an average margin of loss of 37.62 points per game.

All those numbers and records right now, basically a moot point as Lower Moreland enters the PIAA Class AA District One playoffs.

“We’ve had some losses obviously,” Lower Moreland coach Mark Mayson said. “They haven’t been close all at the time. The kids were great they never stopped working, they never stopped playing hard. They played hard until the end of every game.”

For the Lions the good news is also the bad news with its first round matchup with New Hope Solebury.

“They’re looking forward to playing again,” Mayson said if his team. “It’s another opportunity to play, get ready and go play hard.”

The good news is the Lions have already seen New Hope in the regular season so there will be no surprises when the two teams meet November 13th.

“Both team’s know what the other one does and you go line up and play football,” Mayson said.

The bad news for Lower Moreland is New Hope handed it its worse loss o f the season, a 55-8 beat down on October 17th.

“New Hope is outstanding, they’re a very good team,” Mayson said. “We lost to them handily and we’ll go up and give it a whirl Friday night.”

Lower Moreland couldn’t get a lot of things going for it this season as unfortunate breaks and untimely injuries have plagued the Lions for much of the season.

“People talk about resiliency, they’re a picture of resiliency,” Mayson said. “A lot of kids have played. We’ve probably played 30 kids in varsity games and they’ve all done their best, they’ve all worked really hard at it, they’ve all played hard, they’ve all stuck together, they’ve never quit and they’re a great group so I’m very appreciative to be associated with them.”

Mayson believes that the adversity that his team has faced this years shows a lot about the character of the players on his team as despite the losses that piled up this season his team was never disheartened and never wavered in its play or preparation in any games this season.
