Hubley snags 7 TDs in Oxford’s shootout win over Kennett
KENNETT SQUARE – Ryan Hubley hauled in seven touchdowns passes from quarterback Danny Green as Oxford outlasted Kennett in a 53-47 shootout, spoiling the Blue Demons’ homecoming festivities.
“This was probably my favorite game of my high school career,’ said Hubley, who caught 13 balls for 244 yards on the night. “Danny (Green) was throwing perfect balls, the O-line was giving him all sorts of time and opening up holes for (Zach) Deasey. We put it all together and got a win.’
The victory was the first for the Hornets on the season, and they improve to 1-3.
“It’s great to finally get the monkey off our backs,’ said Oxford coach Mike Pietlock. “I think that six points is probably the biggest margin we’ve had with Kennett in five years. This is always a battle and it’s good to walk out with a win.’
Green, who was making just the fourth start of his career, finished the night with 338 yards on 21 of 28 passing, with seven tosses finding the end zone. Green hit four different receivers in the game.
“It’s great to know that I have so many different guys if Ryan isn’t open,’ said Green. “But I saw they never made any adjustments on Ryan, though. They had a linebacker on him a few times, and I saw the mismatch, and just kept going after it.’
Kennett was in it right until the end, though, and led 20-18 midway through a second quarter that saw an absurd seven combined touchdowns. Leading the way for the Blue Demons was Myles Robinson, who carried the ball nine times for 83 yards, and added a 68-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Robinson had four of the Blue Demons’ scores.
While the Green-to-Hubley connection was lighting up the scoreboard, the Hornets were getting it down on the ground as well. Zach Deasey put together about the quietest 221-yard rushing game you can have, and scored the lone touchdown that wasn’t Green to Hubley, a 37-yard run in the third quarter.
“The O-line was amazing,’ said Deasey. “We’re really starting to get our heads in the game and click as an offense.’
