Gridiron greats: Presenting 2016 All-Main Line football team

The 2016 Main Line high school football season produced some fine squads, particularly in the InterAc.
Malvern Prep (8-3, 4-1) won its last five games, and a share of the InterAc title (shared with Germantown Academy). The Friars, featuring Inter-Ac co-MVP Zac Fernandez, also earned a memorable non-league win against LaSalle at Franklin Field.
While Episcopal Academy (7-3) and Haverford School (7-3) did not contend for the InterAc title, they each compiled an impressive non-league record.
In the Central League, Haverford High (7-5), led by the school’s all-time tackler, linebacker Jack Farrell, qualified for the District 1 Class 6A playoffs. Radnor also qualified for the district playoffs, and closed its campaign with a convincing win against Lower Merion, a rivalry that goes back to 1897.
The All-Main Line high school football teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention — but follows the priority of coaches’ selections.
What follows are the fall 2016 All-Main Line high school football teams:

FIRST TEAM
Jackson Niness, Conestoga – Junior linebacker, tight end and co-captain was the Pioneers’ Defensive Player of the Year. His defensive prowess was acknowledged with his All-Central League first team selection at linebacker. He also received All-Central League second team honors at tight end.
Brian Snow, Episcopal Academy – Senior was a first team All-Inter-Ac linebacker, making 115 tackles in 10 games, and contributing several key sacks as well. EA head coach Todd Fairlie said, “Brian is the most dominant linebacker I have seen in my time coaching high school football.”
CJ McAnally, Episcopal Academy – Senior was a first team All-Inter-Ac selection on offense, as he displayed a wide range of athletic talent. At quarterback for eight games, he completed 81 of 129 passes for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns, and he ran 106 times for 579 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 9.5 yards per play on which he threw, run or caught a ball, and one touchdown for every nine snaps.
Kyle Virbitsky, Episcopal Academy – Senior was first team All-Inter-Ac tight end, averaging 17.7 yards a catch and scoring seven touchdowns. As defensive lineman, he made 45 tackles and eight sacks. “Kyle has probably been our best all-round player this year,” said EA head coach Todd Fairlie.
Jack Farrell, Haverford High School – Senior linebacker, the all-time leading tackler in Haverford history, is a first team All-Delco selection for the second time, as well as a two-time first team All-Central League pick. Recorded 96 tackles this fall, scored two defensive touchdowns, and was Haverford High’s Most Valuable Player.
Jordan Mosley, Haverford High School – Junior wide receiver, a first team All-Central League and All-Delco selection, made 52 rceptions for 997 yards and 11 touchdowns. Was voted Haverford’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Malik Twyman, Haverford School – Senior running back, a first team All-Delco and All-InterAc selection, was a powerful offensive weapon for the Fords this fall, both by land and by air. He carried the ball 210 times for 1,559 yards and 19 touchdowns; and grabbed 25 passes for 369 yards and five TDs.
Tommy Toal, Haverford School – Senior quarterback completed 125 of 208 passes for 1,775 yards and 18 touchdowns, and gained 318 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns in 89 carries. Was a second team All-Delco and All-InterAc selection at quarterback.
Peter Solomon, Haverford School – Senior offensive lineman was a key trigger for the Fords’ potent rushing attack, and earned first team All-InterAc honors as well as second team All-Delco selection for his impressive efforts on the offensive line.
Zac Fernandez, Malvern Prep – Senior running back was InterAc Co-MVP and a powerful offensive weapon for the Friars, gaining 1196 rushing yards on 167 carries, and catching 40 passes for 454 yards. He scored 17 touchdowns (nine rushing, eight receiving). Ran for 326 yards on 36 carries in a key late-season 35-28 win against Penn Charter.
Jake Glavin, Malvern Prep – Senior 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive tackle, a first team All-InterAc selection, was a key trigger behind Malvern Prep’s exposive offense (323 points scored in 11 games). The powerful senior lineman has committed to James Madison University.
Daniel Sullivan, Malvern Prep – Senior cornerback, a first team All-InterAc selection at defensive back, was an active defensive force for the Friars this fall, leading the Inter-Ac co-champions in interceptions, with three.
Kyle Addis, Radnor – Junior linebacker, a first team All-Central League selection, was the Red Raiders’ Most Valuable Player, anchoring the Radnor defense and recording 10.5 sacks.
Harrison Doane, Radnor – Senior 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman, a first team All-Central League offensive lineman, and a second team All-Delco selection on offense, was a powerful presence for the Red Rauders this fall.

SECOND TEAM
Archbishop Carroll – Dahmir Ruffin, junior cornerback/wide receiver.
Conestoga – Peyton Jones, senior safety/wide receiver.
Episcopal Academy – Adam Klein, junior offensive/defensive lineman; Dallas Taylor, senior offensive/defensive lineman; DeeWil Barlee, sophomore defensive back/running back.
Harriton – Jack Thomas, junior defensive back.
Haverford High – Nick DiIorio, senior defensive lineman; Mike Romanofsky, senior linebacker; Chris Trainor, senior wide receiver.
Haverford School – Colin Hurlbrink, junior defensive lineman; Aaron Hudson, senior defensive back; Asim Richards, sophomore defensive lineman.
Malvern Prep – Ryan Betz, junior defensive tackle; Seth Janney, senior defensive lineman; Quincy Watson, sophomore wide receiver; Joe Basiura, junior guard.
Radnor – Matt Rigolizzo, senior center.
