Delco Football Coaches MVPs: Trio of QBs honored
HAVERFORD >> Week 5 of the high school football season featured tremendous play at the quarterback position.
Anthony Paoletti of Marple Newtown had the best day of everyone. The junior was 16 of 22 for 375 yards and five touchdowns in the Tigers’ 37-12 drubbing of Upper Darby. Paoeltti’s total yardage broke a Marple Newtown record previously held by head coach Chris Gicking.
It was no surprise when Paoletti was chosen Central League MVP at Monday’s meeting of the Delaware County Coaches Association.
The Haverford School’s Tommy Toal was excellent in leading the Fords to a 48-28 win over Penn Wood last Saturday. The senior earned MVP honors from the Independent School coaches after going 14 of 19 for 229 yards and four touchdowns. He completed at least one pass to nine receivers.
While Chester lost a wild one at Reading High, 38-29, senior quarterback Jamir Green had a night to remember. He accounted for 405 yards of Chester’s total offense, which earned him the Del Val League’s player of the week selection. Green was 12 of 23 for 284 yards and three touchdowns, and added 121 yards on the ground.
Other weekly honors went to:
