Delco Football Coaches MVPs: Carter, Donaghy quarterback both Fords to wins
HAVERFORD >> Senior quarterback Kevin Carter has been incredibly effective for The Haverford School in the first two games of the season.
The All-Delco shredded Del Val Charter in Week 1 to the tune of 302 yards and five touchdown passes. In the Fords’ 45-28 triumph over Archbishop Ryan last Saturday, Carter threw for two more TDs on 20-of-25 passes and 294 yards.
Needless to say, Carter is showing why he is one of the top high school signal callers in the area. For his efforts in leading the Fords to their second consecutive win, Carter was named MVP by the independent schools at Monday night’s Delaware County Football Coaches Association meeting at Barnaby’s of Havertown.
Jack Donaghy was named player of the week in the Central League after connecting on 13 of 19 pass attempts for 211 yards and three TDs in the Fords’ 21-12 win over Chester.
Two players were selected weekly MVP in the Del Val League: Glen Mills’ defensive back/running back Raisheem Rockwell and Interboro specialist/running back Chris Hummel.
Rockwell had six tackles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and rushed for 69 yards on six carries to help the Battlin’ Bulls notch their first win of 2015.. Hummel had a 12-yard touchdown run and took a kick return to the end zone in the Bucs’ (1-1) 20-0 rout of Strath Haven.
