D’Addona named new Lansdale Catholic football head coach

Dominic D’Addona is quite familiar with Lansdale Catholic.

He competed against them, back in his playing days at Archbishop Kennedy.

Now, he takes over as the Crusaders’ new head coach.

“I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity,” said D’Addona, who brings over three decades of coaching experience — on both the high school and college levels. “It’s a great school, a great community. And we have a great area to draw from.”

D’Addona most recently served on the staff at La Salle, since 2001. He was part of a staff that led the Explorers to the 2009 PIAA-4A State Championship.

He is proud to be staying right at home in the Philadelphia Catholic League.

“I’ve always liked the PCL,” said D’Addona. “It’s very competitive, some of the best competition around.”

D’Addona takes over for former LC coach Tom Kirk, who stepped down in January after seven seasons. The Crusaders were District 12-3A champions in 2017 and PCL-2A runner-ups in 2015.

Recent LC alums playing college football include but are not limited to Vince Picozzi (Temple), Ryan Quigley (Princeton), Ifeanyi Okorgi (Central Conn. State) Marlon Fenstermacher (F&M), Nick Picozzi (Temple), Joe Pinzka (Lycoming) and Zach Talley (Monmouth).

“Coach D’Addona is going to continue to build on the proud tradition of LC Football,” Lansdale Catholic Athletic Director Rob Nydick said. “He has been involved with the Philadelphia Catholic League for a large portion of his career and knows what it takes to succeed.

“He is a proven leader on and off the field and has impacted many student-athletes in a positive way over the years. We are excited to welcome Coach D’Addona to LC and look forward to getting started in our preparations for 2019 season.”

D’Addona’s coaching experience also includes stints at Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Delaware Valley University, and Ursinus College. He has coached on both sides of the ball and has also been instrumental in establishing the off-season strength and conditioning program at La Salle.
