Council Rock North’s Pat Bartlett headed to Georgia State
Council Rock North senior Pat Bartlett has announced his intention to play football this fall at Georgia State University. The 6-5, 300-pound guard/tackle for the Indians will play for the Panthers, a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
National Signing Day – Wednesday, Feb. 1, the day area high school student-athletes announce their commitments to collegiate sports programs – is upon us.
In reality, the day has turned into National Signing Week
Athletes from Council Rock North are making their commitments public on Thursday, Feb. 2. Sister school South is hosting its ceremony on Friday, Feb. 3. And Pennsbury has moved its event to Monday, Feb 13.
Neshaminy High School has announced a list of student-athletes moving on to the next level. They include soccer standouts Dylan McDonald (Syracuse) and Dan Grinrod (West Chester), field hockey players Mia Sexton (Temple) and Emily Alexis (Sacred Heart), baseball players Zach Boop (Lehigh) and Eddie Parry (East Stroudsburg) and softball player Devan Masciulli (Millersville).
Some of the athletes have turned to Twitter to give folks a glimpse of their plans for college. One of those was CR North offensive lineman Pat Bartlett, of Newtown. Pat made his intentions known two weeks ago on social media.
The 6-5, 300-pound guard/tackle for the Indians received his first scholarship offer last year from the University of Illinois. He also had offers on the table from Florida Atlantic University, UMass, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Liberty.
In the end, Bartlett chose to continue on the gridiron at Georgia State University. A member of the Sun Belt Conference, the Panthers (3-9, 2-6: SBC) compete as an NCAA Division 1 FBS program.
At the Rock, Bartlett helped the Indians amass over 1,500 rushing yards in 2016. As a unit, North’s O-line limited opponents to just nine sacks in nine games.
“Pat played an integral part in our ground game,” said first-year CR North head coach Matt McHugh. “We ran the ball consistently behind him, knowing we could effectively move the ball because of his ability to control the line of scrimmage.
“Don’t let his size and strength fool you. He is a very humble kid and I am excited to see his career unfold at Georgia State.”
In his final year at the Rock, Bartlett helped the Indians register a historic win over Pennsbury. The 13-7 triumph over the Falcons was the first for McHugh as head coach and the first ever for Council Rock North as the Indians hadn’t defeated Pennsbury since 1999, which was before the creation of either CR North or CR South.
Bartlett was recently among a selected few high school football players who were picked to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl, which was held Dec. 22 at AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas.
