Chester County Football: Week Seven previews
@PeteDLNontwitter
Week seven of the scholastic football season is here and the race for playoff positioning is on. With only four weeks to the district playoffs every game has extra meaning. Kennett, fresh off a upset of Downingtown west ravels to play Unionville, who was handed its first loss of the season last week at Downingtown East. here is a look at all the weekend action.
Kennett at Unionville: This old rivalry may be the best game the weekend. Kennett held Downingtown West to just three points last week as the Blue Demons defense camp big time after time against the Whippets. Unionville is looking for a bounce back game after the loss to Downingtown East. Unionville only rushed for 53 yards last week. The Blue Demons Kalen Frazier can make plays on both sides of the ball.
Kennett 21, Unionville 14.
Coatesville at Downingtown West: Downingtown west needs this game to keep its district playoff hopes alive but this will be a tough assignment against a Coatesville squad that has allowed just 20 points in its last three games. Coatesville’s linebackers are superb and the Whippets will have to find a consistent passing attack to move the football. Coatesville averaged 10 yards per rush in the win over Oxford, going for 266 yards on 26 carries.
Coatesville 28, Downingtown West 14.
Great Valley at Oxford: Great Valley is coming off a big win over Penn Wood last week while oxford is trying to bounce back from a 50-20 loss to Coatesville. If the season ended today, both teams would be in the District 1 5A playoffs. Great Valley quarterback Andy Talone will be the key to this one. Talone is a dual threat for the Patriots and the Hornets will have to contain the Patriots quarterback.
Oxford 21, Great Valley 17.
WC Rustin at WC East: West Chester Rustin is on a roll, winnings last four games. running back Dayshawn Jacobs leads the area in rushing yardage. For the Vikings, it has been a long year and they are coming off a tough 41-6, loss to Chichester last week.West Chester East is gong to have to try to get Mitch Ragni some room to run against a very good Golden Knights front wall. The Vikings only gained 97 yards on the ground in 34 carries against Chichester.
WC Rustin 35, WC East 14.
WC Henderson at Sun Valley: this could be a good spot for West Chester Henderson to pick up a win and keep tits playoff hopes alive. Sun Valley was shut out by Bishop Shanahan last week, 34-0 in a game the Vanguards only gained 50 yards of total offense. Sun Valley may be getting some of their offensive linemen back from injury.
WC Henderson 28, Sun Valley 7.
Strath-Haven at Conestoga: Conestoga has been a pleasant surprise at 5-1 but the Panthers are a very good team that rushed for over 200 yards last week. But Conestoga may have the more balanced attack and I like the Pioneers at home.
Conestoga 21, Strath-Haven 17.
Malvern Prep at Archbishop Spaulding: The road does not get any easier for the Friars who travel to Maryland to take on an undefeated and very tough Archbishop Spaulding squad. Malvern Prep has the advantage at quarterback with senior Jack Capaldi leading the aerial attack. Coltin Deery anchors the Friars front wall.
Malvern Prep 14, Archbishop Spaulding 10.
Saturday’s games.
Bishop Shanahan at Avon Grove: Bishop shanahan has scored 82 points in its last two games, both wins, over Penn Wood and Sun Valley. Eagles quarterback Cooper Jordan threw four touchdown passes in the win over Sun Valley last week. Avon Grove pulled off major upset last week, defeating Academy Park, 14-8. the Red Devils defense only allowed the knights 50 yards passing and Avon Grove quarterback Connor Walsh threw two touchdown passes. for Bishop Shanahan, Colin McGrory caught three touchdown passes in the 34-0 win over Sun Valley
Bishop Shanahan 24, Avon Grove 14.
Academy Park at Downingtown East: Downingtown East will have to contain the knights ultra fast backfield. The Cougars dominated Unionville last week, 46-13, rolling up 256 yards on the ground. running back Josh Asante returned from injury last week and gained 84 yards. Asante and Bo Horvath are going to have to gain yards on the ground to control the clock and keep the ball away from the Knights offense.
Downingtown East 28, Academy Park 17.
