Carroll can’t put brakes on Seton Hall Prep
Archbishop Carroll fell behind by two touchdowns in the second quarter and never recovered, dropping a 42-20 decision to New Jersey’s Seton Hall Prep at Rutgers Stadium Saturday.
Matt Colantuono proved to be handful for the Patriots in the opening half. The 5-9, 180-pound running back scored on a 12-yard run, breaking a scoreless deadlock 29 seconds into the second quarter. After Carroll gave the ball away, Colantuono carried seven times for 46 yards before taking an eight-yard pass into the end zone to make it 14-0.
The Patriots got on the board when quarterback Russell Minor-Shaw ran into the end zone from 10 yards out with less than minutes to play before halftime.
The Patriots trailed by two scores early in the third quarter, but had an answer. Minor-Shaw took a keeper for his second rushing TD to trim the deficit to 21-12.
The teams continued to exchange scoring blows in the third quarter. PJ Panders took the ensuing kick to the house to make it 28-12, then Minor-Shaw threw a four-yard scoring pass to pull the Patriots within eight points again, 28-20.
Alas, Carroll could not stop Seton Hall Prep’s high-octane offensive attack. Myles Thomason snapped off a 33-yard scoring run to make it 35-20 with two minutes left in the third. The Pirates added an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Carroll will visit The Haverford School next Saturday for a 1 o’clock kickoff.
