Bernhardt out at Bonner-Prendergast
One year after guiding Bonner-Prendergast to its most wins in a season in 13 years, Greg “Bubba” Bernhardt was relieved of his head coaching duties Tuesday after four seasons.
“I was totally shocked to say the least,” he said. “They brought me into a meeting (Tuesday) and that was kind of it. … I had no idea it was happening. I was totally taken aback. I thought we were doing a pretty good job. We had one of the best seasons in the school’s history (in 2014). Obviously, we were a little down this year. We lost some players and were young in some spots, but I didn’t see it coming. It stinks, but what are you going to do?”
Bernhardt was at the helm of the Friars since 2012. Prior to taking the job, he was the offensive coordinator at Bonner for several seasons.
Bernhardt guided the Friars to a 19-22 record and two trips to the Catholic League AAA championship game, losing to Archbishop Wood both times.
Bernhardt, 38, was a member of Bonner’s 1994 Catholic League championship team.
Bonner-Prendergast’s record by season under Bernhardt:
2012: 4-6
2013: 3-8
2014: 8-2
2015: 4-6
