Conestoga opened its bid for a third straight Central League title with a 6-0 victory against Lower Merlon Thursday. Meredith Ross tallied two goals for the Pioneers, and Kiley Allen tossed in two assists.
The first goal happened just four minutes into the contest with a goal from junior Meredith Ross from senior Casey Allen. Meredith Ross scored her second off a rebound with just four minutes left in the first half.
Conestoga’s third goal came when a rebound landed on senior Natalie Hirst’s stick. She centered the ball from the right side and it rebounded off a Lower Merion player’s foot. Stoga went up 4-0 when Kiley Allen made a good pass to to Kendall McGee, who slapped it passed the Lower Merion goalkeeper.
Stoga’s fifth goal came when Casey Allen intercepted a pass out of the Lower Merion zone and hit a hard ball towards the net that was skillfully swatted into the net by freshman Charlotte DeVries, who logged her first goal of season. The final goal came off a four-pass play started by from Kelly Baker, who sent the ball down the right side to a racing Charlotte DeVries, who passed it into the middle to sophomore Kiley Allen, who ripped a shot at the net that was tipped in by Hope Skelly.
