Perkiomen Valley 5, Phoenixville 0 >> It was a complete team effort for the Perkiomen Valley field hockey team Thursday, even though the score sheet reflected how Katie Wuerstle (hat trick), Danielle Hamm and Cristina Dougherty (goal and assist each) were dominant on the offensive side of the ball in the 5-0 victory.
Wuerstle put the eventual game-winner in the cage on a feed to the end line from Ashley Elvidge after she carried the ball past three defenders. Dougherty put the Vikings up 2-0 five minutes later on a goal close in off a great assist from Lauren Keyte.
In the second half, Wuerstle completed the hat trick with two goals in a three-minute span. Hamm had without a doubt the nicest goal of this contest: By sheer will of force, she took a restart at the 25, eliminated several defenders and nailed a rocket past the Phoenixville defense. The final 10 minutes had Perk Valley executing pinpoint passing with Saige Shine giving Hamm a much needed rest in the middle of the field and directing the play.
Phoenixville played exceptional corner defense, holding PV scoreless on 11 attempts.
Perk Valley generated several more corner chances but again the tough Phoenixville defense held the Vikes off. Lauren Keyte, Cristina Dougherty and Ari Martina had very strong games.
