GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
Another instant classic between two evenly matched teams. Both teams displayed exceptional passing and ball movement on the fast surface at the Training Center. Perk Valley showed good patience with nice transfer balls in the back that translated into nice sideline plays to gain the OJR circle throughout the game.
OJR utilized excellent blockstick tackling and quick transitions to put PV on the defensive. It was a game of multiple momentum swings.
OJR jumped on top under five minutes into the game on a nice goal out of the air by Maddie Koury on a reverse stick shot by Julia Lamb. PV did not panic and responded with some beautiful stick work by Katie Wuerstle in the circle and nice low shot on a quick pass from Bella Ricci just five minutes later. Not much later Wuerstle earned a stroke getting fouled on a break away to goal. But Cayden Jarvis was equal to the task with a great stick save on a shot to the upper right corner. OJR scored a corner goal with 6:18 left in the first half after earning their 3rd corner of the half. But PV’s Ashley Elvidge jumped on a turnover inside the OJR 25 yard line, dribbled in uncontested and ripped a shot in to the net for the equalizer right before halftime.
The second half had both offenses exerting good pressure, both goalies making big saves, and both teams playing playoff hockey in just the third game of the season. In overtime, PV’s subbing payed off and with some fresher legs on the field, Katie Wuerstle took a restart just outside the 25, dribbled past an exhausted OJR defender to goal with Bella Ricci in a two on the goalie situation. Katie calmly moved Jarvis off her post and buried the sweep shot into the left corner for the winner.
Noteworthy play today for PV by Ari Martina, Danielle Hamm, Ashley Elvidge and Katie Wuerstle. For OJR, Cayden Jarvis was incredible in net and Julia Lamb, Maddie Koury, Jenna Kirby and Raina Smolij played exceptional hockey.
