Reporter/Times Herald Field Hockey Roundup: Plymouth Whitemarsh, Wissahickon roll in openers
Plymouth Whitemarsh 12, Quakertown 1 >> Ava Borkowski and Alexa DeLucca both scored five goals while Borkowski also had a pair of assists as Plymouth Whitemarsh rolled to an SOL Liberty Division win.
Kaleigh Missimer and Regan Gehman each had a goal for the Colonials (1-0-0, 1-0-0 division), who led 8-1 at halftime.
“The midfield line of Hailey Copestick, Kaleigh Missimer, and Molly Lynch controlled the tempo of the game and created some great passing sequences,” PW coach Charise Halteman said. “It was great to be out on Victory Field competing again!”
Wissahickon 6, Hatboro-Horsham 0 >> Aiden Drabick had a hand in five of Wissahickon’s goals, scoring twice and collected three assists as the Trojans shut out host Hatboro-Horsham.
Kendal Williams had two goals, Sophia Havrilla posted a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Alli Wood made seven saves for Wissahickon (1-0-0, 1-0-0 SOL Liberty). Ella Hummel added a goal with Julia Schools and Brynne Miller both had an assist.
Dock Mennonite 3, Bristol 0 >> Celeste Derstine, Kylie Godshall and Eden Schrag all finished with a goal and assist as Dock Mennonite struck for three second-half goals in earning a shutout Bicentennial Athletic League victory.
“We played well as a team and it showed especially in the third quarter, attacking well on the right side of field,” Dock coach Michelle Waldspurger said. “We were without one of our captains today who is out with an injury but as a whole we played really well in our first game of the season.”
Derstine broke the scoreless tie off a Godshall assist at 1:59 and 45 seconds later Godshall’s goal assisted by Schrag made it 2-0. Schrag scored at 4:23 in the fourth with Derstine picking up the assist.
Casey Harper had one saves for the Pioneers (1-0-0, 1-0-0 BAL). Bristol’s Camryn Guy made 11 saves.
Jenkintown 3, Delco Christian 0 >> Adelyn Smith and Tanner Lafferty each finished with a goal and an assist as Jenkintown claimed a shutout BAL win in its opener.
Smith assisted on Rose McCafferty’s opening goal with Smith putting the Drakes up 2-0 off a Lafferty assist. Lafferty tallied the third goal for Jenkintown (1-0-0, 1-0-0 league) with Cady Westkaemper getting the assist.
