Radnor, Haverford earn high seeds in district field hockey tournament
Radnor and Haverford, two of Delaware County’s hottest field hockey teams, were rewarded for their efforts when the pairings for the District 1 tournaments became official Friday afternoon.
The Raiders (14-3), who are on a 14-game winning streak, are the No. 1 seed in Class 2A, while the Fords (16-1-1), winners of nine in a row, are seeded third in Class 3A. They are among the six Delco teams that will vie for district titles.
Garnet Valley also made the Class 3A field as the No. 11 seed. Springfield (No. 15) and Marple Newtown (No. 16) will compete in Class 2A, while Sacred Heart (No. 6) is the lone county team in Class A.
Radnor overcame an 0-3 start to earn the top seed in Class 2A. The Raiders host the Tigers (7-8-2) in next Tuesday’s first round. Springfield (7-8-2) visits second-seeded Villa Maria (13-2) in the opening round.
Haverford earned a bye in the first round of the Class 3A field. The Fords host the winner of the game between No. 19 Council Rock North and No. 14 Methacton in the second round next Wednesday at 6:30.
