Curran, Notre Dame field hockey rally to stay unbeaten
For a good portion of the first half Wednesday, it looked like Notre Dame’s undefeated record might be in jeopardy. Villa Maria jumped out to a two-goal lead through Adele Iacobucci and Ryan Hickey.
At that point, the Irish called timeout and whatever was said, Lauren Curran took it to heart. She scored three consecutive goals before Jess Schneider added to the Notre Dame lead in a 4-3 win.
The Hurricanes pulled one back but drew no closer. Paige Kieft sealed the win for the Irish (14-0-1, 5-0-0) with three saves.
In other nonleague action:
Ridley 5, Chichester 0 >> Four Green Raiders put their names on the scoresheet in the win. Megan Lynch scored twice, while Julia Meeley, Alison Whaley and Corrine Stratton netted once each. Sophia Amalfitano was stellar in the Eagles’ goal, making 15 saves.
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Carroll 4, Archbishop Wood 0 >> Katie Dekovich started the scoring midway through the second half, which opened the Patriots’ floodgates.
Keri Daly scored twice and added an assist, and Maeve Riehman also scored for Carroll (13-4, 8-0).
Bonner & Prendergast 7, Little Flower 0 >> Katie Caruso scored twice as the Pandas (8-7, 6-2) broke the game open with five second-half tallies. Reagan Dolan and Brennagh Shields had a goal and an assist each.
Cardinal O’Hara 5, Lansdale Catholic 0 >> Katie Shallow tallied a hat trick, Sara Grassi paired two goals with a helper and Grace Hussey also scored for the Lions.
