Mercury roundup (Aug. 28): Upper Perkiomen boys, girls soccer teams blank Phoenixville

BOYS SOCCER

Upper Perkiomen 2, Phoenixville 0

Highlights: Logan Watkins and Matthew Fisher both found the back of the net for the Indians in a shutout win over the Phantoms. Luke Gerstenberg and Theo Deskevich tallied assists for Upper Perkiomen. Evan Sands made four saves.

Pottsgrove 5, Collegium Charter 2

Highlights: Zach Spieth led the Falcons to a non-league win with two goals. Nduati Michuki, Sinaly Sidbe and Chris Galloway all added one goal apiece. Ryan Smith registered four saves in net for Pottsgrove.

Lansdale Catholic 3, Methacton 0

LC grabbed a two-goal halftime lead and rolled on to a non-league win over Methacton Monday. Crusaders goals were scored by Matt Schaefer, Chase Anderson and Nolan Feite. RIcky Rementer had five saves for the shutout while Warrior goals Wyatt Stemler (4) and Cole Webb (1) combined for five saves.

Daniel Boone 3, Donegal 1

Highlights: Luke Harper buried two goals for the Blazers in a win over Donegal. Sam Shank added a goal while Danny Boyle and Aiden Gershen tallied assists. Tucker Griffin came up with seven saves in net. Pierce Gohn scored Donegal’s lone goal with Braden Kritzer on the assist. Keegan Geesey made six saves. Daniel Boone held a 9-8 shot advantage.

GIRLS SOCCER

Upper Perkiomen 2, Phoenixville 0

Highlights: Sarah Fisher scored in the first half on an assist from Meg Cairns, enough for a PAC Frontier win on the road against the Phantoms. Fisher assisted Sarah Straup on an insurance goal late in the second half.

Spring-Ford 8, Norristown 1

Maddie Budka and Erin Brogan netted two goals apiece and the Rams handled the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division play. Other SF goals came from Lena Ackerman, Leah Watons, Hannah Dennison and Izzy Pandorf. Assists arrived from Megan Kurian, Jewel Kershner (2), Pandorf, Brynn Vickery, Taylor Ricevuto, Dennison and Brogan

Valerie Poblete scored unassisted for Norristown while goalie Lissette Colon-Rodriguez made seven saves.

Perkiomen Valley 2, West Chester East 0

Highlights: Following a scoreless first half, the Vikings pulled away with two goals in the second half. Brianna Young scored with Mia Corropolese on the assist four minutes into the second half, and Rain Boyd landed a penalty kick 15:35 in. Perkiomen Valley held a 10-3 shot advantage and 2-0 in corners. Olivia Hulayew came up with three saves for the Vikings while Savannah Holman made eight saves for West Chester East.

Pope John Paul II 2, Mount St. Joseph 1

Highlights: Cam Schuler and Miri Michinok put enough goals away to edge Mount St. Joseph. The Golden Panthers led 1-0 at halftime. Sophia Paul, Brooke Pappa and Schuler all tallied assists. Kyanni Escudero registered six saves between the pipes for Pope John Paul II.

Pottsgrove 11, Collegium 0

Highlights: In a decisive season-opener, senior Brianna Thorum and junior Emma Gonzalez each logged two goals and two assists on three shots respectively. The defensive back line of Lizzy Vishio, Jess Carroll, Mykala Shupard and Emily Sorg, as well as keeper Ella Smith, held Collegium scoreless and maintained possession for much of the game.

Highlights: In their third game in four days, the Bears ran out to a 3-0 lead and rode out the win. Hannah Ulrich put Boyertown on the board on a rebound from the cage. Maya Brunner extended the Bears’ lead, 2-0 heading into halftime. Midway through the third quarter, Peyton Shellaway converted a straight corner shot, assisted by Kendal Gilbert to go up 3-0. Anchoring the defense was Alex Bliss, Mary Catherine Maloney, and Alaina Charlesworth.

Methacton 5, Downingtown East 1

Highlights: Ceci Rehak led the Warriors with two goals in a non-league win for Methacton. Lily DeWan (assist), Lizzie Mun and Adrianna Hopple added a goal each. Maddy Baker and Lea DeWan tallied an assist apiece.

The Warriors led 2-0 at halftime and Maddy McKenney registered six saves in net. Nia Massey scored the lone goal for Downingtown East and Anna Powers made 17 saves. The Warriors held a 9-6 advantage in corners

Highlights: Sophia Schweikert logged 25 kills, Raven Albrecht tallied 25 assists and 17 service points, and Yalerie Acevedo added 10 digs. Natalie Januzelli had a team-high four aces and Sydney Bright led the Vikings in blocks.
