Curtis collects hat trick, Christopher Dock dominates Calvary Christian

TOWAMENCIN — Christopher Dock goalie Seth Frankenfield sees the finality in his high school soccer career.

All is he wants before stepping out from the net is his team to give 110 percent when the Pioneers take the field. The captain called out his team on Wednesday against Calvary Christian. He knew his team could have been more crisp. But with the Cougars only holding possession over midfield for a few minutes all afternoon, Frankenfield’s team found a way to take a 8-0 Bicentennial Athletic League victory.

“The first 15, 20 minutes was not sharp,’ Frankenfield said. “I want to make this year the best I can and know we need every game to get better. We are trying to get on a roll here and get the best seed we can for districts. We need the same level of play every single of day.

If the Cougars (3-7 league) were lucky enough to hold the ball it was a matter of seconds before the Pioneers (6-8 overall, 5-5) intercepted a pass and took off the other way. It was their fourth consecutive win. The Pioneers scored five times in the first 40 minutes, two goals coming from junior Andrew Curtis. Curtis connected on a free kick after a handball in the 26th minute and found the back of the net in the 38th minute. He recorded his hat trick with a third goal in the final minute.

“This was a good game to develop our entire team,’ Pioneers coach Matt Moyer said. “We try to work on the process of getting better each day.’

Freshman Jeremy Yoder also scored in the 38th minute to put the Pioneers up comfortably at the half. However, Frankenfield still wanted to see his team give everything it had over the final 40 minutes. Coach Moyer is pleased to have a vocal leader in net and because of that leadership Dock sits atop the standings in the BAL Presidents Conference.

“Seth has done a great job the entire year,’ Moyer said. “He is a team leader, vocal, and he is not afraid to say what needs to be said. That is a strong quality of a leader and our captain.’

Goals elsewhere were off the foot of freshman Austin Kratz. He started the scoring spree in the fifth minute as his kicked slipped right through the hands of Calvary’s overmatched keeper. It was not for a lack of effort, but with shots being sent his way and the Cougars inability to clear, some goals were inevitable. Junior Jesse Kolb bounced a header over the goalie’s outreached attempt and Will Emery and Elias Gehman added goals in the second half.

“The first couple of games we played a lot of big schools and that helped us,’ Frankenfield said. “We play a couple more smaller schools and then North Penn next week. Everything is about preparing for districts.’

Frankenfield was only forced to make a pair of saves in the win. His defense did the rest as the Pioneers cruised to a win. The captain knows tougher games are ahead and the playoffs are right around the corner. He hopes the Pioneers are playing their best soccer. He is going to let them know from the last line of defense if they are not.

“We are trying to get wins to help us get the highest seed possible,’ Moyer said. “We are going to try and get a win the next game. Hopefully with that mind-set good things will happen.’
