O’Neill’s goal a winner for Bonner-Prendie
Sean O’Connell trapped the ball off a direct free kick and played it to Ryan O’Neill, who promptly banked in a shot off the post with four minutes to go in the second overtime, giving Bonner-Prendergast its first win of the season, 1-0, at Cardinal O’Hara in Thursday’s Catholic League defensive battle.
Jon Mathis went the distance in goal for the Friars (1-5 overall, 1-4 league), making the biggest of his three saves on a corner kick in overtime.
In the Central League:
Radnor 1, Haverford High 0: Sasha Abadi stole the ball and chipped it home from a tough angle with less than 2 minutes to go, and Ben Toomey made four saves in posting his sixth shutout over the last seven games for the Raiders (8-2, 5-0).
Strath Haven 2, Upper Darby 1: Freshman Josh Mason made his first career goal even more memorable, laying in the game-winner with 10 minutes to go for the Panthers (5-3-1, 2-3).
Springfield 3, Garnet Valley 0: Ryan Straube put in a rebound of Nick Jannelli’s free kick in the 50th minute, Andrew Astrino finished off Straube’s through ball in the 68th minute and Jannelli cashed in Nick Matyszchak’s pass in the 70th minute to complete the late assault by the Cougars (5-3, 4-1).
Penncrest 3, Lower Merion 0: Drew Hanna tallied twice and Dan Bullitt also found the back of the net in a three-goal first half, with Liam Thomas turning aside five shots to clinch the shutout for the Lions (6-1, 4-1).
In the Del Val League:
Penn Wood 6, Interboro 5: Hassan Warritay scored his second goal of the game 3 minutes into overtime to cap the come-from-behind win by the Patriots (5-1, 2-0).
John Mansaray also scored twice for Penn Wood, which pulled even with less than 2 minutes to go in regulation when Frankie Knuckles’ shot deflected in off the crossbar. Diego Lopez scored a pair for the Bucs.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Great Valley 3, Sun Valley 0: Brendan Skwirut’s 16 saves and strong midfield play by Josh Lehrberger provided the highlights for the Vanguards (1-5-2, 0-4-1).
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 4, Phil-Mont Christian 1: The Knights evened their record at 4-4 behind two goals from Jordan Dozier and a goal and an assist by Jason Yoo.
