Christopher Dock picks it up against Phil-Mont Christian

TOWAMENCIN — Last year the Christopher Dock boys soccer team was young and experienced.

It led to a fall season to forget. This season the Pioneers are just young. Several underlcassmen from last year’s 1-15 campaign are back and hungry to get back on track.

Tuesday, it was the three seniors on the roster helped them pull away from Phil-Mont Christian Academy. The two field players unleashed goals less than a minute apart and goalie Seth Frankfield recorded his second straight shutout for a 3-0 victory on Dock’s home turf.

“We put together two games in a row that were solid,” Pioneers coach Matt Moyer said. “We are starting to see good things, playing in the system we want them to work at. I am pleased how they are collectively working as a group.”

After losing its first five non-conference games against bigger schools, the Pioneers got on track with a 3-0 win over Quakertown. In Bicentennial Athletic League action against the Falcons, seniors Jordan Alderfer and Joshua Yoder booted a pair of no-doubters. The two shots Phil-Mont goalie Lee DeHeer faced in the 15th minute were undeniable. Alderfer’s blast went far, top corner.

“We had a difficult schedule at the beginning,’ Moyer said. “It helps these guys and its how we have traditionally done it here. You have to play the top schools, but you have to keep it in persepctive too.’

The Pioneers kept possession and the ball in the Falcons third for the majority of the contest. It was not just the seniors showing up, as some of the new players and players with expanding roles stepped up and scored. Freshman Austin Kratz scored in the 37th minutes and junior Colin Bernd tapped home the fourth goal in the 46th minute.

“We understand what needs to happen, seven games in now,’ Moyer said. “We are getting better each day. With the power rankings it is important to find wins. Every game is important to find as many wins as you can.’

The offense’s efficiency was pleasing to see for Moyer, but the Pioneers know they have a long way to go. After a long season like they one they sufferred a year ago, the Pioneers know they can never stop working.  Christopher Dock will need to work hard in its next game, Thursday against Lower Moreland.

“We will just keep plugging away,’ Moyer said. “And hopefully we are playing our best soccer come district time.’
