Freeman’s goal boosts Academy Park
Paul Freeman picked up a ball that ricocheted off the post and buried a shot from outside the box with just under 2 minutes to go in regulation, as Academy Park broke into the win column Friday in spectacular fashion, 2-1, at Friends’ Central.
The Knights (1-2-1) opened the scoring on another long-range missile, with Samuka Kaba hammering a 30-yarder that found the top corner of the net 20 minutes into the nonleague match. Emmanuel Ortiz made five saves to earn the victory.
In another nonleague match:
Hun School 2, Episcopal Academy 1: Michael Hinckley’s unassisted first-half goal was all the offense the Churchmen (4-2-1) could muster.
In the Central League:
Radnor 1, Ridley 0: Calvin Congleton chipped a pass over the defense and Max Barish beat Green Raider goalie John Kopko to the ball, heading it home 5 minutes into the second overtime as Radnor (5-2, 3-0) emerged with the win late Thursday night.
Haverford 4, Garnet Valley 2: Willie Fineberg recorded a hat trick, Tom Leonard contributed a goal and an assist and Noah Egelkamp set up a pair of scores for the Fords late Thursday night.
