The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Local Roundup (April 25th): Pennridge holds on for victory

Boys lacrosse
Pennridge 13, CB East 8: The Rams led 7-0 at the half and held on for the win on Tuesday in an SOL National showdown. Frank Fanelli led Pennridge with four goals and one assist, while Ryan Carickhoff added three goals. Levi Souder (two assists) and Matt Seiler (one assist) each added two goals, while Matt Kriney and Drew Ferguson also scored for Pennridge. Ben Souder won 18 of 24 faceoffs, while Tyler Vandermark had 14 saves.

Pennsbury 13, North Penn 12, OT: The Knights rallied from an 11-8 fourth-quarter deficit on Tuesday only to drop the heartbreaker in overtime. Jayden Davenport led the Knights with four goals, while Ryan Bocklet and Caiden Myers each collected hat tricks. Colin Ponyi and Emerson Morrelli added goals for NP, while Joe Morrow won eight faceoffs. Connor Howard made eight saves in net.

Souderton 12, Neshaminy 4: The Indians led 5-0 after one quarter and coasted to the win on Tuesday. Seth Grossman and Tyson Bui each scored three goals for the Indians, while John Martin Vince had two goals and three assists. Also scoring goals for Souderton were Ty Quintois (three assists), Brody Anderson, Seth Landis and Trey Bui. Peyton Bannak won 13 of 15 faceoffs, while Matt Malanga, Ryan Johnson and Noah Connor combined for nine saves.

Girls lacrosse
Archbishop Carroll 16, Archbishop Ryan 3: The Patriots opened up a 10-1 halftime lead and coasted to the PCL win on Tuesday. Fourteen different players scored for Carroll led by two goals from Calista Hubbard. Bridget Robinson and Mae Radar combined for the win in goal.

Softball
Germantown Academy 9, Penn Charter 6: Winning pitcher Clarrissa Smith struck out 10 and also delivered a two-run double for the Patriots on Tuesday. Zoey Clark added four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Emily Spillane added three RBIs, while Alex Johnson also had three hits.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 14, Lower Moreland 3: Sam Skivo had two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs as the Colonials finished with 14 hits in all. Freshman C Anna Powel had two hits and three RBIs as the Colonials won big on Tuesday. Junior OF/C Caelin Kosvitch also added two hits. Molly Moore pitched the first three innings and struck out six batters without giving up a hit.

Pennridge 5, Neshaminy 4: Grace Helbling broke a 2-2 tie with a two-RBI double in the top of the fifth, Pennridge added another run in the sixth and held on to win the SOL crossover contest.

Averi Dockery’s two-run home run gave the Rams (7-4, 5-3 SOL Colonial) a 2-0 lead in the second before Neshaminy plated two in the fourth to pull level. Neshaminy scored twice on wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-4 but Dockery pitched a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.

Dockery finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Helbling went 2-for-4 and earned the win pitching the first six innings, allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits, walking two and striking out seven. Regan Bauman was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored while Ryleigh Lilly went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Rachel Allen was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for Neshaminy (6-7, 5-5 SOL Patriot). Morgan Volgraf had two runs scored.

Pennsbury 10, Souderton 9: RBI singles from Kayley York and Sierra Miller pulled Souderton even 9-9 in the top of the seventh but Pennsbury scored on an error in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the SOL crossover win.

Cameron Nadolski was 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the Indians (6-7, 4-5 SOL Colonial) while Miller went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. York finished 2-for-4 3iwth two RBIs and two runs scored.

Olivia Plinke went 2-for-5 with an RBI while Lily Ponce scored twice. Souderton took a 7-3 lead with three runs in the fourth but Pennsbury plated six in its half of the sixth to go up 9-7.

Central Bucks West 12, Bensalem 1 (5): Three was the magic number for Chloe Dryden, who went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and three run scored as Central Bucks West jump out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and claimed a five-inning SOL crossover win.

Molly Gibson was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and four runs scored while Julia Thomas had three RBIs for the Bucks (6-5, 4-4 SOL Colonial), who have won three of their last four.

Hatboro-Horsham 11, Springfield (Montco) 4: Hatboro-Horsham scored three runs in both the first and second with Tess Kearney’s solo home run in the third putting the Hatters up 7-0 as they went on to earn a fourth consecutive win.

Abby Waeltz was 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Kearney had four runs scored for Hatboro-Horsham (6-5, 6-2 SOL Liberty).

Kayla Parsons went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Springfield (4-4, 3-4 SOL Freedom) while Taylor Schulz had two RBIs.

Baseball
Pennsbury 8, Souderton 0: The Indians gave up seven unearned runs in the third inning and dropped the contest on Tuesday. Jeremy Fallon gave up five hits and seven unearned runs in three innings in taking the loss. Souderton’s offense was 1-hit by Pennsbury pitcher Kayden Faulcon, who walked four and struck out five in six innings.

CB West 7, Bensalem 4: The Bucks rallied for four runs in the second inning and coasted to the win on Tuesday. Six different players had hits for CB West led by doubles from Kevin Bukowski, Sam Greer and Alex Valdes, who had two RBIs. Julio Ermiogiotti picked up the win, striking out 10 in 5.2 innings of work, allowing five hits and two earned runs.

North Penn 9, Council Rock North 6: James Mangine collected 3 RBIs – two on a double that drove in the first of five runs in the top of the fifth to give North Penn a 9-2 lead and the Knights held on from there to earn a fifth straight win.

Justin Egner had two RBIs while Mangine and Mario Sgro both scored twice for North Penn (9-1, 7-1 SOL Colonial). NP starting pitcher Jack Picozzi earned the victory, allowing two runs – none earned – on five hits. He walked one, hit one batter and struck out five.

Trailing 2-1 with one out in the top of the fourth, a Kevin Brace bases-loaded single and an error brought in three runs to put North Penn up 4-2.

Quinn Erlandsen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Council Rock North. Leor Kedar went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Brian Curry was 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Luke Mullen had two RBIs.

Dock Mennonite 31, The Christian Academy 3 (3): Dock Mennonite scored 21 runs in the top of the third – Deven Ross and Cooper Brannon both homering as the Pioneers collected 16 hits in the inning and rolled to a win.

Brannon also doubled and finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs and four runs scored. James Steinmetz was 5-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, Zach Frederick went 4-for-5 with a triple, six RBIs and four runs scored while Ross was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Isaiah Giesbrecht was 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice. Logan Snell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored with Sam Laux going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Zach Neff had three RBIs.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 12, Lower Moreland 2 (5): Gavin Rocks was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored as Plymouth Whitemarsh picked up its fourth wins in a row.

Luke Gartland went 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored twice while Chase Olszyk was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored for the Colonials, who trailed 1-0 after an inning but posted seven runs in the bottom of the second then tacked on five more in the third.

Johnn Giorano finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored with Tyler Gartland scoring twice.

Xavier Gonzales had a double and a run scored for Lower Moreland (4-7, 2-6 SOL Freedom).

Hatboro-Horsham 12, Springfield-Montco 3: Springfield scored three runs in the top of the first but Hatboro-Horsham answered with fourth in the bottom of the inning then pulled away with a six-run fourth.

Jaxson Bumpus was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Hatters (8-3, 5-3 SOL Liberty), who won their third straight. Trey Porter’s three-run home run in the first tied the game 3-3 as he finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two run scored. Noah Schlosser went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Matt Caruso was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Springfield (4-5, 4-4 SOL Freedom).

Boys tennis

SOL Colonial Doubles: CB East’s Yevgen Kuryanov/Alex Knyazkov won the title with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over West’s Ruhaan Vaidya/Samai Kolandaivelu on Tuesday. CB West’s Ethan Maher/Elias Trichon won the third-place match with a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 rally over South’s Vardin Rao/Mitchell Rabinovich.

Lower Moreland 4, CR South 3: The highlight of the match came down at No. 1 singles where two of the top players in the state matched up against each other with South’s Mikkel Zinder giving Lower Moreland’s Aaron Sandler his first loss of the season 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Both players won District 1 titles this weekend and put on a display worthy of a state final. LM won the match with Jacob Heller winning at No. 3 singles by a 3-6, 6-3, 4-0 score over Samuel Kautsky at No. 3 singles in a key three-setter. The Lions also won three of the four doubles matches with Logan Moore and Gabriel Shaprio shifting the momentum with a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles over Alex Pollak/Brenden Kahlikhman.

Boys volleyball
Souderton 3, CB West 0: Nate Brown had 19 kills, 7 digs and 3 aces as the Indians picked up the sweep on Tuesday. Also standing out for Souderton wer Ian Nice (10 kills, 14 digs, 3 aces), Derek Gilmore (4 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces), Levi Leatherman (37 assists, 2 blocks, 2 aces) and Alec Kreiser (13 digs).
