Main Line squads compete at 16th annual KSF Lacrosse Festival
A number of Main Line high school lacrosse squads competed at the 16th annual KSF Lacrosse Festival Saturday at Radnor High School. The festival is the largest one-day high school lacrosse festival in the United States, with 54 teams participating.
Agnes Irwin (9-4, 4-1) defeated reigning Ches-Mont Champion and 2015 PIAA semi-finalist Great Valley 14-8 at the 16th annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival. Owls senior captain Laura Pansini was unstoppable, scoring a career-high seven goals and adding an assist. AIS goalie Hailey Andress was equally impressive for the Owls in the defensive end, stopping a career-high 16 shots, besting her 12 save effort last season in AIS’s victory over Moorestown (NJ). Lila Barker had a hat trick and two assists and Natalie Pansini chipped in two goals, while Kate White dominated the midfield, picking up five ground balls and snaring three draw controls.
Harriton (girls) defeated Academy of Notre Dame, 12-10, at the KSF Festival in the first game of the day at Encke Field. Leaders for Harriton were Liv Tevis (one goal), Alex Ladda (six goals), Laura Lasprogata (one goal, three assists, one draw control, one ground ball), Haley Morris (one draw control, three ground balls), Greta Stahl (four goals, one assist, 12 draw controls, three ground balls), Claudia Conrad (one draw control) and Devin McClain (five saves). Leaders for Notre Dame included Claire Nappi (three goals), Caroline Allen (six goals) and Julia Dambly (one goal).
Shipley (boys) lost to Germantown Academy, 15-13, in a 9 a.m. game at the KSF Festival.
“We almost had GA, and there were times we looked amazing as a team,” said Shipley head coach Mark Duncan. “Then there were enormous let downs and mistakes that kept GA in the game and eventually the final lead. But we played four quarters of lacrosse in [wet] conditions, dominating on offense when we got the ball, and breaking down their D to the point where they couldn’t keep up with us when a short stick middie was matched up on our guys – these are all things to be proud of.
As I told the team after the game – we have seen how good we can be and if we can eliminate those mental lapses, we can win every game the rest of this season and another Friends’ Schools League title.”
Shipley standouts included Tate Gallagher (four goals, four assists, five ground balls, and fine faceoff X performance), Nick Yi (four goals, two assists), Nick Gonzalez (five ground balls and “played his heart out as usual” according to Duncan), Pete Moeller (two goals), Amir Fluellen (two goals), Frank Campanale (one goal) and goalie Colton Gallo (“nine huge saves,” said Duncan.
Haverford School lost to Brunswick, 15-6, at the 16th annual KSF Festival. Haverford’s leaders included Forry Smith (one goal, one assist), Tommy McNamara (one goal), Keyveat Postell (one goal, two assists), Luke Desperito (one goal), Johnny Nostrant (one goal) and goalie Alex deMarco (10 saves).
Malvern Prep defeated Hun School, 15-6, at the KSF Festival. Kyle Anderson scored five goals as the Friars cruised to the nonleague win. Adam Goldner had two goals and two assists for Malvern and Billy Coyle had a goal and an assist.
Villa Maria Academy edged Abington, 9-8, at the KSF Festival. Lucy Meehan had two goals and one assist, and her second goal broke the 8-8 score in overtime at the buzzer. Other contributors for the Hurricanes included Annina Iacobucci (two goals), Lauren Dunn (one goal), Audrey Fantazzia (three goals, one assist), Erin Finley (one goal, one assist) and Caroline Bradford (one assist).
