Henderson controls game, downs Owen J. Roberts 8-3 in District 1 playoffs
Bucktown — The final stretch of the season has not exactly gone to plan for Owen J. Roberts.
The Wildcats suffered their fifth consecutive Pioneer Athletic Conference Championship loss to Spring-Ford last Thursday night in an overtime thriller.
Just a few days later, the No. 14 seeded Wildcats took an 8-3 loss to West Chester Henderson in the opening round of the District 1 playoffs at Henry J. Bernat Field on Tuesday night.
With the win, the No. 19 Warriors will face No. 3 Bishop Shanahan in the second round of the district playoffs on Thursday.
“Henderson controlled the entire game,’ said Owen J. Roberts head coach Jeff Neese. “From the very beginning, they controlled the ball, they seemed to get every ground ball and they controlled the possession most of the time. We really weren’t able to make anything happen.’
Jack Colt scored two goals for Owen J. Roberts while Austin Koury scored once. Austin Delgatto, Sam Garges and Chris Kent each notched an assist, while Brandon Calle finished with seven saves in goal.
It was the first time the Wildcats had suffered two straight losses all season, having won seven straight before their championship loss to Spring-Ford.
And for Colt, their loss Tuesday night may have come as a result of their most recent loss to Spring-Ford, who also topped the Wildcats twice during the regular season.
“It definitely hurts a lot to take this loss in the first round of the playoffs,’ said Colt. “After losing to Spring-Ford last week, I think we kept our heads down in this game. I don’t think we came out with enough focus, and we really didn’t play our game the way we have this season.’
