Ridley’s win caps program’s best regular season
Ridley’s boys basketball team made history Thursday night, which is saying something considering the success the Green Raiders have had on the hardwood over the years.
Senior Sean Bingnear came through on Senior Night as the Green Raiders downed Garnet Valley, 59-49, to post the best regular-season record in program history.
The Green Raiders finished 21-1 overall and 16-0 in the league. They’ll play the winner of Saturday night’s game between Strath Haven and Conestoga Monday night for the Central League title.
Bingnear made three big 3-point field goals and finished with 11 points. He hit a trey to keep things close in the first quarter and drilled two more triples in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Fellow senior Julian Wing led Ridley with a season-high 29 points.
Andrew Louden paced Garnet Valley with 15 points. Austin Laughlin and Brandon Starr chipped in with 13 points each.
In other Central League action:
Strath Haven 58, Radnor 49 >> Jahmeir Springfield (5-for-7) and John Harrar (4-for-6) combined to go 9-for-13 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Panthers. Harrar, Alex Ischiropoulos and JayVon Green-Springfield tallied 12 points each.
John Li had 11 points and Vernon Harper 10 for Radnor (11-11, 6-10).
Marple Newtown 54, Harriton 52 >> Cameron Mathes (12 points) hit several clutch free throws down the stretch for the Tigers. He finished 8-for-10 from the foul line. Mark Dever led the attack with 13 points and Mike Rutecki made three consecutive 3-pointers in the second quarter to stake Marple Newtown to a 35-22 halftime lead.
Penncrest 56, Springfield 45 >> Tyler Norwood poured in 24 points and Peter Spiotta added 22 to help the Lions hold off the Cougars. Kyle Ryan collected 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists in his final game for Springfield.
Conestoga 50, Haverford 45 >> Zack Lezanic tallied 16 points and Darryl Caldwell 13 to lead the Pioneers. Pat Corbett scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Fords (6-16). Jack Donaghy pitched in with 10 points.
In the Del Val League:
Chester 68, Chichester 65 >> On a night when Chester struggled mightily from the free throw line, it was a foul shot that enabled the Clippers (14-6, 9-0) to win the Del Val League title.
Khaleeq Campbell hit a free throw late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. He scored 11 of his game-high 26 points in the third quarter to help the Clippers take a 52-42 lead into the fourth quarter. Chi cut the deficit to three, but could not get the equalizer.
Stanley Davis Jr chipped in with 13 points for Chester. Deshawn Hinson had 11 points and Maurice Henry 10. Da’Quan Granberry paced Chichester (13-8, 5-5) with 17 points. Derrick Welles and Eric Montanez contributed 15 points apiece, while Jamal Womack finished with 11 points.
In other Del Val League action:
Penn Wood 72, Glen Mills 57 >> Calvin Melton and Vincent Small showed the way for the Patriots with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Penn Wood had seven players with at least six points.
Anthony Thompson and DaQuan Dantzler led Glen Mills with 14 points each. Dantzler shot 4-for-4 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Academy Park 81, Interboro 60 >> Deandray Covert tallied 16 points. Nick Simon netted 15 points on five 3-point field goals and Kyree Temple added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights (15-6, 8-2). AP scored 43 points in the second half to put the Bucs away.
Brandon Conlin scored a career 20 points to lead Interboro.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Oxford 59, Sun Valley 43 >> The Vanguards were unable to overcome a 27-15 halftime deficit. Ishmael Ahman led Sun Valley with nine points. Gerry Spennato chipped in with seven for the Vanguards.
