FIRST TEAM
Amir Hinton, senior guard, Abington: Whether it was a big block or a high-flying dunk, Hinton was a highlight ready to happen. His scoring drew all the attention, but he made great strides on the defensive end, taking on a top perimeter player every night. When the stakes were highest, Hinton played his best. A clutch player, he knocked down some key shots for the Ghosts throughout the year and found a new level in the postseason.
Matt Penecale, senior guard, Abington: The other half of Abington’s backcourt, Penecale was the perfect team player. Unselfish but clutch, he knew what his team needed then went out and did it night in and night out. He and Hinton became the first Abington teammates to hit 1,000 points in the same season since 1975. He hasn’t formalized his college plans, but whichever school he picks is getting a keeper.
David Krmpotich, senior forward, La Salle: At 6-foot-7 with plenty of athleticism, Krmpotich was the hammer to back up the Explorers’ quality guards. A Colgate commit, Krmpotich is far from a finished product, with plenty of room to grow into his big frame. His best ball is ahead of him, but he still provided a highlight reel in the area this past season.
Dan Long, junior guard, Pennridge: The top scorer at nearly 17 points per game on a team that turned a lot of heads, Long’s relentless play was a big part of the Rams’ success. A relentless attacker on offense, Long was the guy Pennridge handed the ball to in big spots and he often delivered. His aggressiveness showed on the glass as well, where he rebounded well above his 5-foot-11 size, just like the rest of his teammates.
Luke Connaghan, senior forward, Archbishop Wood:A 6-foot-5 presence in the post, Connaghan was one of the best inside players in the rugged PCL, and it was very tough to stop him. He had a seven game streak of 20-plus point scoring nights midway through the season, and he chased after rebounds like they were bars of gold. His play netted a third team all-state honor in Class AAAA and he will continue playing at DeSales next year.
Second Team: Colin Mulvaney, Jenkintown junior guard/forward; Danny Duffey, Lower Moreland junior guard; Tim Guers, Germantown Academy senior forward; Joe Molettiere, Pennridge senior guard; Sam Lindgren, Germantown Academy senior forward.
Third team: Kit Najee Walls, La Salle senior guard; Simeon Fryer, Upper Dublin junior forward; Tarrell Willis, Christopher Dock senior forward; Sean Griffin, Phil-Mont Christian Academy junior forward, Justin Ardman, Methacton senior guard.
