Recap
Germantown Academy 72, Hill School 58 >> After playing to a 15-15 tie in the first quarter, Chase Audige ’18 hit a three-pointer to put Hill (18-8) ahead 29-27 at the half. However, a red hot Germantown Academy (24-5) stormed back to win its 10th straight and advance to the state title game against top-seeded Westtown, winners over Episcopal Academy.
GA shot 5-8 from long range and 14-17 from the line in the 2nd half. The Patriots shot 59% on the game, and were 16-22 from the line compared to Hill’s uncharacteristically dismal 5-11. GA was led by Evan Eric-Longino’s 28 points and UPenn-bound Devon Goodman’s 21 points. Hill guarded the talented GA lineup well in the halfcourt, but too many Hill turnovers and long rebounds from missed threes led to GA fast breaks. Forced to scramble late, Hill could not corral GA and they kept hitting shots to seal the victory.
Bryce Allen ’16 saw his impressive 4-year career come to an end, going down swinging with a team-high 19 points and 3 steals. He finishes as Hill’s all-time wins leader, 2nd all-time assists, and 3rd all-time steals. Backcourt mate Seth Stankiewicz, headed to Bentley on full scholarship, scored 9 points in his final game. Stankiewicz will end his career 4th all-time in wins at Hill with 58 victories in just 3 years. Jonas Stakeliunas, on his way to play at Dartmouth, had 7 points and 7 boards. Solomon Ruddell ’17 scored 8 points on 4-6 FG shooting to go with 3 blocks. Audige would finish with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. With the loss, Hill falls short in its bid for a third consecutive 20-win season.
