Blair Academy 65, Hill School 55 >> Hill (10-5, 2-2 MAPL) lost a heartbreaker to visiting Blair (11-3, 4-0) as Jonas Stakeliunas ‘16 had a 15-foot game-winner at the buzzer rattle in and out, and the Bucs behind 6’11 Deng Gak ‘17 went on to win it in overtime.
Hill trailed by as much as 11 early, 20-9, but would cut the lead to 26-19 at the half. Over the course of the third period, Chase Audige ‘18 would score 10 of his 14 points (5 rebounds, 2 assists) to bring Hill even at 35-35 entering the fourth.
Hill then scored the first 11 points of the final quarter to lead 46-35, but fell short at the free throw line down the stretch. Blair pounded inside to Gak who would personally outscore the Blues at the line 11 to 6 (Hill 6-11 FTs).
With 16 seconds left in regulation and Hill up 49-48, Hill’s 7’1 forward Solomon Ruddell ‘17 (9 points, 6 rebs, 5 assists, 2 blocks) was called for his 5th foul and Gak made 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game. Hill would then take the final shot but it would not stay down.
In the overtime, the team’s matched buckets to 53-53 before Blair pulled away. Gak would score 10 of his game-high 27 points in overtime with his tall counterpart Ruddell fouled out. Bryce Allen ‘16 led Hill with 15 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Seth Stankiewicz ‘16 added 10 points, and Stakeliunas chipped in 7 points, 6 rebs, and 3 assists. Hill was outrebounded 36-28, and the Bucs were outstanding at the line, making 20-25 free throws.
