Recap
The Pioneer Athletic Conference’s Frontier Division schools came into Thursday with four of them tied for second place.
While the foursome — Phoenixville, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Upper Merion — fight to sort out ownership of the second spot, the Pope John Paul II boys basketball team gets to sit back and watch the proceedings. They do so securely in first place, assured of the division’s regular-season championship and its top seed for the upcoming PAC playoffs.
The Golden Panthers accomplished those distinctions with a 70-57 victory over Upper Merion. Finishing the league’s regular season with a 7-3 record, PJP left the Trojans, Falcons and Phantoms (each 5-4) with one division game left … and the Vikings finished and alone in fifth place.
Sean Bustynowicz scored 22 points to lead PJP, with Justin Green adding another 18. Chris White also hit double figures for the Panthers, netting 10.
