Hill School 71, Western Reserve 45 >> In their quest to gain a rare three-peat as Mercer Invitational Tournament champs, the Blues (4-4) built an insurmountable 25-12 first quarter lead behind 11 points from Daniel Nixon. In his first start, Nixon would score a game-high 15 points to lead a balanced attack.
Xavier Mayo added 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Gabe Dorsey had nine points, all in the first half.
The Hill will play again 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Kiski, a 75-52 winner over Masters in Friday’s nightcap game. Losers’ bracket games will pit Canterbury and Episcopal Ac. at 1 p.m., with Western Reserve and Masters at 2:30 p.m.
