Dock Mennonite comes up short in PIAA-2A quarterfinals to Holy Cross
Rebounds proved key as the Dock Mennonite boys basketball season came to an end in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals Saturday with a 64-57 loss to District 2 champ Holy Cross at East Stroudsburg South High School.
Vaughn Martin and Nate Lapp each had 19 points to pace Dock, while Tony Martin added 10.
Dock only trailed 39-38 entering the fourth quarter, but could not climb the ladder or the boards in the fourth.
Hayden Hosie paced Holy Cross with 20 points, including shooting 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final quarter.
The Pioneers ended their season with a school-record of 27 wins. Dock also won the Jim Church Memorial Tournament, the Tim Ehst Holiday Tournament, the Bicentennial Athletic League regular season and postseason championships and the District 1-2A title. Seniors Lapp, Hoyt Butje, Zach Neff, Lane Bergey, Tyler Derstein and Cooper Brannon closed out their senior careers in record-breaking fashion.
